I want to just express to the parents and families who review this blog that I feel so fortuante to be a part of a great school district and a great group of students. Last week, I was gone most of the week due to a family issue but the students were awesome while I was gone. I had several comments from individuals that the students in my classroom were great which is a tribute to the parents of our community! I know when I got back to school on Friday, it was such a blessing to be back, have the student inquire about my family and how sincere and caring they all were in light of a very difficult situation. I just wanted to express to everyone that I feel so blessed to be a part of a great community!!!

This week is parent teacher conference week so we will have a short week with students but it should be a great opportunity for us to catch up from last week and for parents to stop in and visit either Monday or Thursday; I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible those two days!

Economics:

Monday: Student will be looking at the factors influencing Supply.

Tuesday/Wednesday: Students will be looking at how demand and supply work cooperatively together and work on a packet that examines these elements with different examples.

U.S. History:

Monday: Students will be looking at the imperialistic attitudes of America in the area of the Hawaiian Islands and why.

Tuesday/Wednesday: Student will begin looking at the Spanish American War and the idea of how yellow journalism influenced the public views that Americans had of what was happening in Cuba.

Thursday and Friday: No School for students.

Monday: Students will be discovering some of the different retirement ideas that are available to them as well as the key to diversification of investments.

Tuesday: Test on Chapter 6: Emphasis on Savings and Investing

Wednesday: Discussion will begin on Demand for products and goods.

Thursday: Discussion will begin on Supply of goods by businesses, what they look for.

Friday: We will work to put demand and supply together in visual graph representations.

U.S. History:

Monday: Students will be assigned a review packet over the Progressive Era and work on this in class; due Tuesday.

Tuesday: We will  go over the Progressive Review, discuss key ideas of the test.

Wednesday: Test on the Progressive Era

Thursday: Begin discussion on the Imperialism Era and why the United States decided to seek new lands.

Friday: Continue our discussion on Imperialism and begin looking at the Spanish-American War.

My son is having a surgery on Tuesday so Bob Young (former teacher at Indianola) will be my substitute teacher for bothe Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday: Video on Theodore Roosevelt and discussion on Howard Taft.

Wednesday: Crossword puzzle activity

Thursday: Discussion on th election of 1912 and an activity examining the candidates.

Friday: Discussion on Woodrow Wilson's Presdency; New Freedom.

Friday marks the end of the 1st Quarter.

Economics:

October 20th is National Credit Awareness day and I am excited to have representatives coming to my Economic classes from Community State Bank to share some insight with our students on credit, management of debt and to have a question and answer time. I have asked the students to create questions to ask the local bank on this topic and welcome your questions as well that can be asked in an effort to better inform us all of the bank's view on this subject.

Monday: Students will be viewing a video on Credit use and managment of credit, we will have a short formal evaluation and assign a guided reading activity.

Tuesday; Students will be going through the guided reading activity, discuss the keys to focus on to help avoid bankruptcy and review key components for their credit test.

Wednesday: Credit Test

Thursday: Students will begin to examine the key of saving money to the overall economy.

Friday: Students will examine the various types of investment components available to them as means of saving for the future.

U.S. History:

Monday: Students will be having a summative assessment on the Populist Movement. Following this assessment, we will begin to review the Progressive Movement and the reforms of the early 20th century.

Tuesday: We will discuss the early reform efforts that were implemented by local, community and state leaders during the Progressive Movement.

Wednesday: We will conclude our review of the local, community and state leaders and introduce Theodore Roosevelt as president and examine his role in helping to reform America.

Thursday: We will read a story entitled "The Jungle" which will examine the terrible conditions in the Meat Packing plant and how these stories helped to create an environment for change and reform.

Friday: We will look at the various ways in which Theodore Roosevelt specifically worked to transform the "establishment" of big business and seek to create the Square Deal where labor would have a "voice" and at the very least have a chance of being respected.

We are starting a new month and closing in on the end of the first quarter in three weeks. I have really enjoyed getting to know my students this semester and I have gained to appreciate the awesome community that I have a chance to be a part of; this is a tribute to the quality parents and community support that our students have; keep up the great work!

Economics:

Monday: Students will be examining how interest rates on loans will affect decisions that they make as well as explore the advantages and disadvantages of repaying debt over a long period of time. Students will have a short assignment as well.

Tuesday: Students will explore the various places to obtain credit and various components of credit and how they operate in our society. Students will have an assignment on a Guided Reading 4-2.

Wednesday: Students will examine the components of credit cards; how they make money even if they are paid off on time as well as exploring the three 'C's of credit.

Thursday: Students will examine the components of credit in regards to big purchases and buying a home to help them consider strategies for saving now for future items that they want.

Friday: We will conclude our week with reviewing some of the key points, have a quiz and begin monitoring our stock purchases and allowing students the freedom to sell and reinvest in other areas.

U.S. History:

Monday: Students will conclude looking at the problems that farmers were being faced with in the last part of the 19th century and look at how farmers began to organize to have a voice.

Tuesday: Students will examine the Populist Movement; the key ideas of this movement and how successful this movement was in shaping American History.

Wednesday: Students will have a short quiz looking at the primary points learned over the Populist movement and be given a review guide to help them pin-point primary targets for the major quiz on Friday.

Thursday: Students will go over the review guide in class and final questions and answers will be explored in preparation for their quiz on Friday.

Friday: Quiz on Populist Movement and then students will be asked to begin looking at the key ideas and supporters of the Progressive Movement that will help to transform America at the start of the 20th Century.
